Personally I'm on the DeSantis train but there is one thing that concerns me.
I think part of the reason Trump did so well with minority voters is that many of them knew him first as a celebrity and TV star. In most cases they already liked him and so the firehose of negative press about him wasn't able to change as many minds because they were already inclined to think he was a good guy. "Trump a racist? Nah, he's that guy I like from that TV show with Omarosa!"
DeSantis will not have that going for him and so the first DeSantis exposure that most voters will get is likely to be through the lens of an organization like CNN or the WaPo or the NYT and their coverage will be biased because they want DeSantis to lose.
You saw the same thing happen with Romney. Romney was a decent guy, smart, empathetic, obviously not racist, and yet the press was able to successfully paint him as a callous racist right out of the box. As a result he did very poorly with minority voters.
Why should we expect anything different with the DeSantis candidacy. I mean yes he will fight back harder than Romney did, but in many cases it won't matter because the press' biased introduction of DeSantis will have already settled in many voters' minds.
