It's worth your time to take a few minutes and read this ProPublica piece on the collision between the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship in 2017.

It's a fantastic piece of journalism and it should be a wake up call to anyone who believes the US Navy would walk right over the Chinese Navy in a real fight.
