But why? Isn't the vaccine effective? I believe it is. The data tells me that almost everyone who has been vaccinated and who has subsequently gotten infected has experienced mild or no symptoms. Deaths have been completely decoupled from "cases" thanks to a combination of the vaccine and natural immunity.

If I'm right, and I'm sure Fauci would say that I am, then why would he want to keep vaccinated people unexposed to the virus? If you're going to get a breakout infection, isn't it better to do it now while we're facing a realtively weak Delta Variant? Get that natural immunity now becuase there's a chance, however remote, that a deadlier mutation could be somewhere down the line.

Fauci's position makes no sense based on the sicence and it makes no sense in terms of what our long-term public health goals should be.
