The next two elections are going to hinge on the economy, not the 1/6 riot.

I think the Dems know that which is why they're going all in on the 1/6 committee, hoping to make the GOP brand toxic ahead of the midterms. I think that's also why Cheney and Kinzinger jumped aboard... they probably see that strategy as their only long term hope for remaining in Congress.

I don't think it will work becuase most voters are going to vote based on taxes, inflation, gas prices, and the stock market.

The other mistake I think the Dems are making is that they are tackling the 1/6 investigation as if its a prophylactic designed to prevent Trump from running in 2024. Like if they can't make the GOP as a whole toxic, maybe they can make Trump himself toxic.

The problem is that no one associates DeSantis with 1/6, so by focusing all their attention on 1/6 they're taking the pressure off DeSantis and allowing him to cruise under the radar for the next few months. And if Trump decides not to run, all of this will have been in vain, as an untouched DeSantis rolls to the nomination relatively unscathed.
